Rep. Dan Goldman (D) Defies Biden and Votes With GOP to Shield Netanyahu From War Crimes Arrest Warrant

June 5th, 2024

Opponent Evan Hutchison calls out NY-10 Rep. Dan Goldman (D) for once again doing AIPAC’s bidding in passing a bill to shield Netayahu from accountability for war crimes. The Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act sanctions individuals  “engaged in any effort to investigate, arrest, detain or prosecute any protected person of the United States and its allies.”

In a stunning betrayal of international justice and human rights and the prerogative of his own party and President, Dan Goldman aligned with Republicans in passing a bill to sanction International Criminal Court (ICC) officials. This move comes in response to the ICC’s decision to seek arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar over allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity related to the recent conflict in Gaza.

The bill, which passed with a 247 to 155 vote, aims to impose severe sanctions on individuals involved in investigating, arresting, detaining, or prosecuting protected persons of the United States and its allies.

The Biden administration has also expressed strong opposition to the bill, acknowledging the problematic nature of the ICC’s actions but emphasizing the need for more effective methods to support Israel and promote international justice without resorting to sanctions against the court.

“It is deeply troubling that Dan Goldman, a lawyer who built his reputation on upholding the law during Trump’s impeachment, now votes to undermine international justice by sanctioning ICC judges for doing their job,” said political organizer Evan Hutchison, Goldman’s opposition in the June 25th Democratic primary. “This vote is a stark contradiction to his previous stance on accountability and the rule of law.”

“Dan Goldman has chosen to stand with the GOP and those who seek to shield perpetrators of war crimes from accountability,” said Hutchison. “This decision undermines the very principles of justice and human rights that our nation purports to uphold. It is a disservice to the victims of these atrocities in both Israel and Palestine and a stain on our moral standing in the world.”
